It was a Lubberly Jubberly evening for more than 100 people who supported Action in Mental Health's gala dinner and auction at Waltham Abbey Town Hall on Saturday.
'Delboy' look-alike Maurice Canham entertained guests and helped with the auction which featured a wide range of music and sporting memorabilia, including signed discs from the likes of Rod Stewart, Madonna, Bob Marley and Sir Paul McCartney.
Sports fans could bid for an autographed West Ham pennant, a pennant signed by England coach Sven Goran Eriksson and a signed Millwall Football Club shirt.
An England shirt signed by nine members of the 1966 World Cup winning team fetched £700 - the highest amount paid for a single item at the event.
Raffle prizes included a night at London club Stringfellows with a limousine and champagne, and a tour of Pinewood film studios.
The evening, with a Bucks Fizz reception and three-course dinner, was held to mark World Mental Health Day and to help celebrate AIM's fifth birthday. Among the guests were Epping Forest Council chairman Brian Sandler and his wife Brenda, Epping Forest Council leader John Knapman and his wife Debbie, district council joint chief executive John Scott and his wife Margaret, last year's Epping Forest Council chairman Richard Morgan and his wife Jean, North Essex Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust director of operations Andy Mattin and trust chief executive Dr Richard Coleman.
Also enjoying the evening, held in the Cornmill Suite, was Lady Carli Gee, the current Miss Silver Screen and soon-to-be Miss Faberge Russian Art 2006. She was accompanied by fellow cast members of ‘A Pocketful of Stardust’, a film currently in production. Entertainment was provided by T-Rex tribute band T-Rextasy.
Also included in the celebrity auction were signed memorabilia from AIM Patron, Jackie Chan and other film memorabilia from; One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, A Beautiful Mind, Monty Python and Mask of Zorro.
Total amount raised on the night around £10,000. This was AIM's first major event of its kind. It was a huge success thanks to the hardworking and dedicated AIM team! Watch this space for details of next year's event... coming soon!
